  • Welcome Najeh Meftah, our new direct payments support officer. As part of his induction, he will be arranging to meet all our clients over the next few weeks. Najeh used to work on Direct Payments support for DIAL so some of you might recognise him.
  • Hello,

I thought the website we have been developing might be of interest to you and your visitors: www.counselling-directory.org.uk
The purpose of the site is to provide the UK with a huge counselling support network, enabling people to find a counsellor close to them and appropriate for their needs. This is a free, confidential service. The website also has sections on types of distress and some useful statistics.
Every counsellor on the site has either sent a copy of their qualifications and insurance cover to us, or is registered with a professional body with recognised codes of ethics and practice, this way we can be assured of their professionalism.
I think our site could be a useful resource for those looking for support or general advice about counselling.  Link- http://www.counselling-directory.org.uk/region_134.html.
      Kindest regards Debbie Hursey (Mrs)

  • Walsall SUE offer Walsall people support with their Direct Payments. A direct payment is for people with assessed support needs to purchase a service themselves instead of using an existing service.
For example, if a person has a carer from the Council, they can choose to have a direct payment. Then they can employ a carer themselves. They have much more control over who their carer is. People with a direct payment choose who to employ, and can fire the carer if they are unsuitable, though we hope it never comes to that.
Because employing someone is new to most people, Walsall SUE offers specialist support. our staff are trained in employment law and in resolving staff issues.
If you want to ask about Direct Payments please use our support line 01922 648500
  • INTRODUCING SPEaK

    Support Planning Empowerment and Knowledge

    • a Walsall SUE project

Disabled and older people can now choose to receive a budget from their local authority to spend on the support they need to get through the day.

If you have a carer at home you can employ your carer directly. You choose who it is.

If the carer finishes their work with you early, instead of going on to their next job, you can have the benefit of that extra time

Instead of simply going to a day centre, you can use money from your budget to pay to do things that you enjoy.

Instead of living in a disability ghetto you can take part in normal everyday life.

This is an exciting Government-led initiative to give power and control back to disabled people.

Find out more. Contact SPEaK directly, or ask your support group, project or day centre to contact SPEaK.

SPEaK to us by ringing Walsall SUE (01922 644983). We will explain how you can take control of your life
